Independence Creek, Alaska
September, 2012
Loading up Tracy's plane for the flight to Independence Creek. We Have 95 section corners to recover that were set every two miles along the township and range lines back in 1976 for a future breakdown. Doug and Matt will ride over in the Cessna 206 and Myself and Liz will ride with Adam in the helicopter.
A Man and his bird
Here is the camp at Independence Creek, An unfinished geologists camp, perfect for the 5 of us. The fall colors are unreal
The Cook Shack
Cozy once we opened up the windows, ran water from the creek, and started up the generator
First night we explore our surroundings
Old Independence Silver Mine
Highly unstable
Waiting on a static GPS session when this critter shows up ... comes right up to me ... no fear
I introduce ... the wilderness
In the a.m. Adam fly's myself and Matt out to position recovered corner monuments then heads back to camp to get Doug and as many jugs of av gas as he can carry for the days work, in the P.M. he flies us all back ... she is very heavy at this point
A morning sunrise from my tent
section corner fell only 10 feet away from this old miners shack out in the ding toolies.
Liz, our good friend and chef extraordinaire
Nobody has ever complained about Liz's cooking
part of the ghost town of Candle

The crew, Adam, Liz, Matt, Doug, and myself
Tracy tried landing through the fog a half dozen times before succeeding in extracting us and the gear. Good going Man. Back to Kotzebue.
