in Bethel...charging up for Nightmute
The Era Caravan loaded with our gear while a camera crew films for the reality TV show "Fly Wild Alaska"
Forward Operating Command Center, Nightmute. $150 per day....without a bathroom. This is also the village pump house. Locals fill their jugs with water on the backside of the shack.
Sizing up the job.
Survival food
The Nightmute Store ... its best to bring in your own groceries...trust me on this.
here's where we go to get a key to our shack. When the key couldn't be found we just bashed the padlock off
here's where we go to rent a 4 wheeler as well...but none to be had. Luckily I carry a small Marine VHF radio with me and put a call out for anybody willing to lease us their 4 wheeler for a few days.... success.
Except for small children and old folks the village was pretty much a ghost town as everybody had left to go fishing downriver for King salmon , herring, etc
Never know what your going to trip over in this village....
Frost heaved pushed the pink sleeve up popping off the bronze cap in the well below. But the dimples position should be unchanged if the thing works the way its suppose to....there's 40 ft. of that stainless steel road in the ground.
Setting Brass tablets in Rip Rap for Road ROW
heres the job... boundary survey of the runway and access road. DOT versus Native Eskimo Land
looks like Wonder Woman is in town
I started documenting the sets, recoveries with the Theodolite Pro app for iPhone...burns all the positional data right on the photo.
Boat Rental for the day...from some old Eskimo guy who couldn't speak English...but we communicated through numbers
They don't much like surveyors here.
This would be better with a chilled bottle of 1997 French Bordeaux Poly Fuisse
Gotta get outa here... gotta gotta gotta
outa Nightmute...outa Bethel...and off to Juneau
To be continued....
